In the early hours of Saturday morning, I welcome’d my first high powered barrel mare’s second foal into the world. This foal was hand selected from start to finish, considering marketing, athletics, strategy, future professions and so many other categories. While this may not seem to be work related, in a way it is as it’s a way to understand how the power of influence stems and creates.
For me, it’s a way that my “day job” rolls over into my hobbies in an understanding of economic trends, marketing and strategy for success. This is my first race baby, bred and born to go to the sprint tracks and I couldn’t be more excited. The hours of research, the interviewing, the studying, the learning - all that went into making the decisions that led to this long-limbed bay colt are all a part of market research regarding something that I am passionate about.
While I don’t consider myself a content creator or influencer when asked point blank, we all are in our own little way. A thought I’ve pondered quite frequently as I am speaking on the topic of influencers later this month at a conference in Seaside.
Because of this foal, a new set of individuals on social media understood some of the art and strategy in breeding performance horses, the history of Appaloosa’s and their play in sprint horse racing, the economic value of the horse racing industry, and why a little baby colt named Bash wears a bell collar because his mom lost her vision after receiving a head trauma at the heels of a pasture mate.
If I have one piece of advice for all of you, it’s to not be afraid to share your passions no matter how rookie or veteran or successful or average. Influence comes through your dedication to understanding something that you are passionate about and then sharing that passion with those around you. The algorithm does a wonderful job of assisting you to find those that are also intrigued or interested in the same topic, whether they knew it or not!
